Axis Mundi is my ethnomusical project. Axis Mundi refers to the world centre and evokes the connection between heaven and earth in shamanism.
For the last few years, I have been travelling and conducting fieldwork in remote locations of Central and Southeast Asia.
I met with local actors of folk, ritual and shamanic music. I attempted to interview them and document their lives and performances to learn, exchange, and ultimately promote their folklore.
Indeed, not only is this cultural and human heritage of inestimable value endangered by modernity, the digital age, and its narcissistic obsessions (Robotisation, AI, etc.), but its crucial influence on the evolution, survival, and balance of our civilisations remains little understood and poorly appreciated.
Therefore, Axis Mundi’s goal is to promote local traditions and musical folklore and to develop collaborative and artistic projects locally or remotely.
Through music performance and promotion, one can assert one’s identity and achieve financial sustainability.
